1. What year did you start in your (this) trade?
I started in 1981.
2. What do you enjoy most about your work?
I enjoy the customer and employee satisfaction.
3. Who were some people who influenced you the most?
At the risk of giving a cliché-sounding answer, I would honestly have to say that Jesus influenced me the most. However, In my practical everyday life as a fellow human on Planet Earth, I would have to say that my wife and children have had the greatest influence on my life.
4. Do you have a favorite quote or a quote you like?
“The only things you can take with you are the things you give away.”
5. What is your favorite movie?
I am not much of a movie watcher. I am a bit ashamed to say that I always laugh when watching “Groundhog Day.” I did find “Ike: Countdown to D-Day” a very captivating movie, which some people find incredibly odd.
6. What types of work do you do day in and day out nowadays?
I oversee Kalos’s financial matters. I am still involved with the management of larger construction projects and our larger corporate customers.
7. What do you think sets Kalos apart from other contractors?
Honesty: being willing to admit fault when we make a mistake.
8. What do you like to do outside work?
Recreationally: Golf. Socially: Golf. Competition addiction: Golf. Of course, I’m joking… maybe..
9. What do you want your legacy to be?
Answering this question would feel really egocentric for me. I prefer ancient wisdom: “Let another praise you, and not your own lips.”
10. What does Kalos mean to you?
Well, I am the one who picked the name originally and ran it by Bryan. Kalos is an Ideal. Pragmatically, I know that we will never perfectly live it out, but we press on toward that mark. We don’t give our pragmatism the space to wallow around in the mud of our failures. We don’t make excuses for our mistakes. We press on to things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst. I honestly need to be reminded of this from time to time.
11. What is it like to work with your sons?
It’s exhilarating and depressing. It’s extremely satisfying and indescribably frustrating. There are days when I’ll believe anything/everything is possible, and there are days where I’ll believe, “This will never work.” In a very practical way, this truth is lived out: “LOVE NEVER FAILS.”
